Numerical Treatment of the Interface in Two Phase Flows Using a Compressible Framework in OpenFOAM: Demonstration on a High Velocity Droplet Impact Case

The ability to accurately predict the dynamics of fast moving and deforming interfaces is interest a number applications including ink printing, drug delivery fuel injection. In current work we present new compressible framework within OpenFOAM which incorporates mitigation strategies for well known issue spurious currents. algebraic Volume-of-Fluid (VoF) method with additional interfacial treatment techniques volume fraction smoothing sharpening (for calculation interface geometries surface tension force, respectively) as filtering capillary forces. tested against different benchmarks: A 2D stationary droplet, high velocity impact droplet case (500 m/s velocity) dry substrate and, same conditions, liquid film. For static case, our results are consistent what observed in literature when these implemented incompressible frameworks. cases find that accounting both compressibility correct representation very important numerical simulations, since pressure waves develop propagate interacting interface. While do not alter shape, they have considerable effect on lamella formation. Our method, although currently cases, can also be used any or without considering surface.
